TNANAF Awards Scholarship
The Northern Arizona Native-American Foundation (TNANAF) awarded a scholarship for college to Cebre Henry of Whiteriver in a ceremony on Saturday December 12, 2009 at the University of Arizona in Tucson. Cebre is a White Mountain Apache of the Bar Clan, born to the people between two hills.

TNANAF Executive Director Brian Buckley and Board Member Genevieve Bennally presented Cebre Henry with a $1,000 scholarship. Cebre was selected based on her strong application to TNANAF.

Cebre, an Alchesay High School graduate, will pursue her degree in Nursing at the University of Arizona. At the ceremony she was accompanied by her mother, Dorcas Lavender, Stanley Tsosie, and her daughter, Freya Skidmore.

The scholarship was presented on the University of Arizona campus near the sculpture Watercarrier, by Apache artist Craig Dan Goseyun.

Reny Orea, a Mathematics Teacher at Alchesay High School, said of Cebre, "Cebre earned an excellent grade in Calculus, being critically open-minded about expanding the parameters of her thinking. She was always an active and engaged class participant." Cebre is working toward becoming a nurse like her mother, who is a Procedures Nurse at the Whiteriver Indian Health Service.

Founded in 2005, this is the fourth year TNANAF has granted scholarships to Native-American high school students from tribes in the northern Arizona region. In that time it has granted more than $10,000 in scholarships to Native-American students on their way to college.
