TNANAF Awards Scholarship To Chinle High School Graduate
The Northern Arizona Native-American Foundation (TNANAF) awarded a scholarship for college to Jeremy Albert Wartz of Chinle in a recent ceremony at the University of Arizona in Tucson.
Jeremy was raised in Whippoorwill Springs and is the son of Kaye and Albert Wartz. He is from the Salt People clan, born for the Salt Water clan, his maternal grandparents are Deer
Spring clan and his paternal grandparents are the Salt People clan.
TNANAF Executive Director Brian Buckley and Board Member Genevieve Bennally presented Jeremy Wartz with a $1,000 scholarship. Jeremy was selected based on his outstanding essay to TNANAF.
Wartz, a Chinle High School graduate, will pursue his degree in Political Science at the University of Arizona. His long-term goal is to attend the University of Chicago Law School in order to work for justice and equality.
Benjamin Owens, a Mathematics Teacher at Chinle High School, said of Jeremy, “Jeremy’s enthusiasm toward education is remarkable. In addition, his level of compassion for his friends, elders, and peers made him such an important asset to our school’s general health and atmosphere.”
Founded in 2005, this is the fifth year TNANAF has granted scholarships to Native-American high school students from tribes in the northern Arizona region. In that time it has granted more than $10,000 in scholarships to Native-American students on their way to college.
